Day 7- To the North via The Coast to Scotland

Ken's blogging tonight. We are so glad we have a car. And while it can be stressful at times, we have been able to visit places we have only read of in history books and seen in movies. England by car is highly recommended if you don't mind yelling at the driver, "Stop!" or "A bit too close on the left!" or "Slow down!"  Come to think of it, it's exactly like driving on any vacation with your spouse, except, after about the tenth time, you'll remember which door is the driver side. Here is a run down of our day with more pictures and less text:

Bamburgh Castle- we were blessed with clearing skies and beautiful vistas of Lindisfarne and the surrounding tiny islands. Didn't hit the tide right for going on the Island. Next time!

Berwick-upon-Tweed- little medieval walled village at the head of the Tweed River. Don't visit there if you are in Northumbria. (Jan's input: it was a less touristy, "real" look at the merge of Scots and Brits. (A bit "darty.")

Edinburgh- we got into Scotland around 4:30 p.m.at the Kenvie Guest House. We made our way to the Royal Mile by city bus and managed to see St. Giles' Cathedral. I paid homage to my Presbyterian heritage as I came upon the statue of John Knox in the Kirk (which means 'church' for you English overlords...). We stumbled along the Royal Mile admiring the old buildings, many kilts shops, and finally found a delicious dinner at Whiski, a local restaurant. No Scotch Whiskey for us, but a delicious dinner that made Jan cry. (from Jan: I was that tired and ready to eat.)

More from Jan: After our near death experience that first day on the road, you'd think the driver would appreciate the spouse's loving and gracious warnings... but alas, after 25 years, I suppose we should be glad we're even speaking to each other. :) LOL (Lots of Love!)
